For the last 3 months I’ve been lucky enough to be an intern at SPL Agency with renowned London promoter Jaime Ritchie as my mentor. Over the 3 months I’ve been involved in the marketing of several of their key clients events taking place in both London and international venues. Additionally I also designed and built SPL’s website, check out www.splagency.com to find out more about what they do.

Entered 2011 in a moist club in the city of Bristol. Incredible night, shame none of us could remember much of it. I woke up on the 1st January with a terror headache, I know that much.

So what’s 2011 gna hold for me? Hopefully lots and lots of design based, creative goodness. The end of 2010 got me involved in some awesome work for a few UK based DJ’s Monki (rinse.fm), Scratcha (rinse.fm, DVA music) and DJ Chamber (Bass Kitchen). This work involved branding, ep, mixtape designs. Absolutely loved being given the chance to get my teeth into something. They were all pretty awesome in terms of letting me put on own flair on things…which I know often isn’t the way.

Come 2011 I should be doing some work for an up and coming Edinburgh based fashion designer, FiFi. Its definitely something a bit different to what I’m used to but I can’t wait.

Oh bloody hell. Another blog bites the dust.

So much has occurred since the last. But to cut it short:- finished my degree, got my results, moved out of my Bournemouth flat, got emotional…a lot, moved back home, turned 21, attended loads of festivals and spent loads of money. And now my entire live is revolving around getting a job. And oh my, it’s shitty.

I currently feel like an over-weight, middle aged mum, slogging out in front of the TV night after night, eating. I’m hating it and simply can’t wait for something to bloody happen. I’m spending the day working in a restaurant and the evening job hunting online. And I’m not going to lie, it gets tedious.

Saying all that, I hate moaning.

So basically, my aims by end of summer/autumn; to get employed AND read a book and ACTUALLY finish it. Simple. Isn’t it?

BOOM! With the dissertation having been handed in…what? Like a month now! (Bloody hell, that had shot by!) It’s all been about the major project. I headed home (without even allowing myself a celebratory night out with fellow imps) to surround myself in the project and crack on with it. This didn’t go exactly to plan…having bummed round my family home, eating as much as possible, watching far too much daytime TV, being distracted by visits from my sister and 9 month old niece, I finally set up a working area for myself in my dad’s office and created week-by-week aims. They seemed pretty realistic and achievable. Then came the reality of my lack of coding knowledge and understanding. This I feel is down to both a lack of teaching from my university and my own ignorance to the subject as I had realised early on that the coding side of construction wasn’t for me. After approximately two week of both me and my dad trying different approaches to tackling my list of requirements, nothing had been created. I had reached the height of my frustration and any passion and drive I may of had for the project had disappeared. Then came the God of code, black Bill Gates. I owe so much to this guy over the last three years of my university degree; not just with regards to the technical side of the course (and my god has he done a lot to help me with that!) but he’s taught me to strive for anything that I want to achieve regardless of hurdles, peoples opinions and my own hesitations. I’m almost certain he’s unaware of how much he’s done for me personally while at uni. If he ever reads this I guarantee his response will simply be “It’s just what I do”. If there’s one person from uni I’m going to strive to stay in contact with, it’s this guy! So, thanks to several of my contributors I have been able to learn so much through watching them work on my project, mainly with regards to coding and PHP set up.

So with him on board it’s all come together. I completed all the html files and its simply now just all got to be put together. The deadlines fast approaching and all I can think about now is the summer.

Seeing Toddla T, Lady Chann, Doorly tomorrow night, crazy excited! Been listening to this track all day to keep me hyped.

It’s already a new bloody month isn’t it?! This year needs to chill out and slow down.

Sat in bed at 10.30 on a Saturday night, thinking all I want to do right now is snuggle up and fall a sleep, what a wotsit! This is what 3rd year has done to me; taken away my hilarious nature and desire for crazy antics.

Anywho. So I’ve made a really good friend lately….his names Library. He’s an absolute lad, pretty quiet sometimes though….I’ve been doing 9-5 (if not later) in the library for the past two weeks. It’s having good results, with my dissertation so close to being finished. A solid day tomorrow should do it! Then for the check…I’m petrified I’m going to get the response of “Oh, Jesus Rebecca. I should have checked this weeks ago, its bloody terrible. I’d start again if I were you!” But my mind set at the moment is…ahhhh sack it, that’ll do! Which is very unlike me.

So with the disso so nearly in the bag, its all about the project now. I’ve allowed myself 6 solid weeks to perfect it. I can do this, I know I can. May have lost my passion for the project, but I need to score some serious points here.

So in conclusion, once again…this year isn’t what I signed up for. Actually havint to working for a degree needs to BORE OFF.

This song has kept me going in the library everyday this week. Enjoy and keep smiling.

So here we are, new month…the last one was crap so lets hope this one is a damn site better.

Ok, my project. The main issue taken away from my minor presentation was keyboard navigation. Having looked into it and gaining advice from someone that has Javascript experience, I have basically learnt that the iframe structure my site currently has is a massive hassle and will make life so much harder for many areas of my projects build. Brilliant. So basically have to go from scratch again… I keep thinking we have loads of time to get it done and what I’m wanting to achieve isnt even that complicated but it just seems everything I have tried to do so far has gone wrong in some way and caused problems, as a result I have realised project managing is a bigger, more stressful role than I first presumed, I have to start being realistic about time management . I don’t know whether to be panicing.

Hopefully once I get all the code based side of the build finished, everything else can run smoothly. I bloody hate code and this project has just reinforced that again for me and set in my mind that I don’t want anything to do with it in my professional career. I hate being negative but there we go.

Also, I hate living with boys. Never again.

So this is it…my final term of University. These last three years have gone bloody fast!

All my remaining deadlines are pretty scattered across the next 5 months, so I’m remaining positive and letting myself belief its going to be a breeze… Saying that, being back in Bournemouth now, I’m finding it so hard to start myself building the actual thing! I think keeping it basic is key, don’t want to over complicate things that already get my mind spinning.

On a positive note, I got my minor project marks back…got 70 and 77, so as you can guess I’m rediculously chuffed! It’s made me want to succeed even more now! I made a promise to someone at the start of my degree to do the very best I possibly can and I’m not going to let them down by any means!

So, here I am, twiddling my fingers, thinking ‘what could I possibly be doing right now to make some progress?’ And I’m blank. Finding it pretty hard to work in my room, need to do something to improve my work station…as this really isn’t happening…It’s probably fine and I’m just making excuses! Major par on the motivation front at the moment.

Busy, Busy week. Project work is finally starting to take shape. Ideas set in stone….until tomorrow when our intense feedback day occurs and I get told my entire project is shit. goodtimes.

Meeting with my coder this evening to try and get the basic structure of my site made, ready for the minor pitchs in like 3 weeks… feels pretty ok about the minor right now, I play to go in there with so much passion and drive for my idea that that alone will impress them!

Interms of contribution, will hopefully be getting started on designing afew other peoples projects as soon as possible, to save their work building up at the same time as my own…. sounds good in practise….

So generally…positive vibes work wise right now…but for how bloody long???

Third and final year of my degree…..shiiiiiit. This has come round disgustingly fast. It’s weird…I’m starting to feel like I did at the end of sixth form. I’m going to be sad to leave but it feels like time to move onto something else…..but lets be honest, I have no bloody idea what I want to do!

In terms of my thirs year work, dissertation is well underway, hopefully I will get that under the belt. But my production work…WOW. I think I have the concept sorted but as far as all the interactive stuff within it, I have no idea what I’m doing. Its early days but I want it all set straight in my mind.

Went to Koko in Camden at the weekend to see Annie Mac Presents. What an awesome night, went with some brilliant friends… can always rely on them for a terror night. What a life style Miss Mac leads…thats where I wna be heading…but minus the talent.

So, I always say it but I NEED TO SORT MY LIFE OUT. AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
